"My sculptures are made to be touched and moved by many people. I show them in museums but also take them into the city centre because I want to infect not only people interested in art, but all people with my love of art. My art can also be touched in order to make it accessible to all the senses."

"Please touch!"

Art campaign with sculptures of movement in public spaces

The participatory art campaign by artist Manfred Webel has visited eleven cities in NRW so far. The artist Manfred Webel launched the art tour entitled "Please touch!" on 15 May 2021 and has already inspired over 8,000 people since its launch in Monheim.

Webel travels to the tour stops with his art container. In addition to this mobile art container, the rolling studio, he also brings along Monami, his huge mobile movement sculpture that people can touch and move. It is a highlight alongside many other sculptures of movement, such as Quattroporte, Loops, Bubbles and Rotor.

Touching, moving and being liberated is the basic philosophy of Webel's art: "Please touch my sculptures! Take them in your hand, turn them, move them. Sculptures want to be liberated, to experience something. With you!" says the NRW Culture Prize winner.

Mobile art container

An artist's studio for travelling

The mobile art container is always part of the "Please touch!" art event. The mobile studio offers visitors a space to develop and is the nucleus for fresh ideas. Once at the location, the artist docks onto the local structures with his "Please touch!" programme: whether museum, school, district or park - and launches his participatory offerings.

Art campaign with sculptures of movement in public spaces

"Please touch!" is an official project of the Kultursekretariat NRW Gütersloh as an association of over 80 member cities and municipalities and is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Each location has regional project partners who use this multi-day art event for their individual purposes. This means that different focal points and content are developed for each location.
